Bitcoin price manipulations are done by some set of whales and it is really not easier for normal trader to do so. Actually whales first sell their massive amounts of Bitcoin when price is very high for BTC. They again buy back BTC when price drops significantly in the markets.

the whales do these manipulations so they can shake you out of your bitcoins, and this is why you need to know when you should hodl and when you should sell your coins so  you dont end up losing money because of whales.

But there are a small traders and a whales traders who they can manipulate the Bitcoin price with their higher purchase or sold.
