hardware wallet Shapeshift and KeepKey

Shapeshift & KeepKey sent me a complimentary hardware wallet. 
I received an email about it and almost missed the offer altogether as it was in my spam folder. 

Apparently they have partnered up for the launch of the new Shapeshift.io 

The hardware wallet links to the shapeshift account and exchanges can occur directly from wallet to wallet. That’s my understanding at least   Haven’t tried the exchange yet but the wallet seems to be good 

After checking the details I realized that the wallet was completely free and indeed it was.  Took about 8 days to arrive at my house but seems like a decent piece of hardware. Especially given the fact that it was free.

I guess that means you need to sign up with ShapeShift and go with all that mandatory KYC stuff.
I am not using ShapeShift, and not a fan of KYC also, but 10$ is good deal

Yes there were several rounds of promotion. I don’t know how the users were selected or grouped but somehow I was put into the “free” designation. Mine did not cost me a penny. Free shipping and all. Shipping was rather slow but hey I can’t complain about a free hardware wallet. I wAs previously KYC verified with Shapeshift so yes that was absolutely a requirement and I understand everyone’s opposition to it.

This is a good deal for a hardware wallet. Yes you need to do the KYC, but in the end, on most exchanges this step is needed to exchange coins to fiat. I might take a look. Did you already use your new wallet?

Yes absolutely. I opened the packaging right away and got it all set up via my laptop and secured my keys etc.  I have yet to use the wallet for any exchanges on the shapeshift platform but I’m sure that will come soon. The wallet is able to be linked to your shapeshift account (if you choose to set that up) and you can monitor your balances and history on the shapeshift webapp while still maintaining the security of having your coins in an offline hardware wallet. It’s a nice service overall but I’m not sure it’s going to be too successful in attracting many users.  Nonetheless anyone in need of a hardware wallet this is certainly the best deal I’ve found on the web for a direct purchase from the manufacturer themselves.

Thanks for the info. I think KeepKey provides excellent security and protects against both physical & virtual theft. It can be used on any computer, even one that's been infected with malware or targeted by hackers.

Honestly, I would not have believed it, I would have thought that it was a fraud scam. Can I find out why you got a free wallet? Maybe you participated in some kind of competition?
