Yes there is a higher risk of loss as you are said. Maybe we are not need to trade but there is risk in investing too. This is very hard to deal and you can make losses the way exchanges work. Cryptocurrencies as you say have shown that they are very volatile, the profits you will obtain depend on the time you project as an investor. My personal opinion in investing in the long term, I think it is a safe strategy but it takes a lot of patience and not be scared by market movements.

I would say that there is no such thing as a guaranteed investment with no risk involved at all because after putting an asset to an investment is already a risk to which decision you have made. After putting an investment, all you have to do is to hope for a thing that it would make a return for yourself as a benefit from the investment you have made.
