Hi guys 👋

As we all know Bitcoin has changed the fintech industry forever. Currently the “digital gold” is the leading crypto asset in the world.

As the economy inches closer and closer to the digital age, digital transactions seem to be the way to go. After Bitcoin and other digital currencies had a bullish run in 2017, many countries saw their potential and slowly started adopting them in their economy. Out of all the cryptocurrencies out there, Bitcoin remains to be the main choice in a lot of countries.

Let’s look at the top hotspots that use BTC.

Malta

When it comes to the crypto adoption race, Malta is one of the countries that are ahead of the race. In 2018, the Maltese government approved three cryptocurrency laws that helped businesses relating to digital currencies to flourish. Since the bills were passed, many start-ups and exchange sites opened in the country, contributing to economic growth and employment.

Currently, Malta is now home to a host of major crypto exchange sites such as Binance, OKEx, DQR, and ZB.com. According to Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, Malta has a huge potential to become the world’s blockchain island.

Known as the ‘international advocate’ of blockchain technology, Malta also hosts one of the largest and most prominent blockchain events in the world. The Malta Blockchain Summit is an annual event that features some of the biggest names in the crypto space such as the Winklevoss Twins, John McAfee, Tim Draper, Roger Ver, and Nouriel Roubini.

Singapore

In Southeast Asia, Singapore is established as one of the countries thriving in the fintech industry. It’s no surprise then, that the country is also one of the leading Asian countries in the crypto adoption race. Right now, Singapore is home to some of the biggest digital asset exchanges such as Tenx, CoinGecko, Coinbene, Huobi and Binance.

When it comes to crypto regulations, Singapore has a more relaxed set of rules. One of the major movements the government did was to collaborate with major companies such as NASDAQ, Deloitte and Anquan to oversee the crypto trade settlements. To keep track of the crypto businesses in the country, Singapore also asked crypto entities to register with the Monetary Association of Singapore.

Canada

Bitcoin has a strong following in the Great White North. According to Bitcoin.com, Canada’s Bitcoin growth soared up to 112.45% for the first quarter of 2020. To manage the flow of Bitcoin in the country, the government imposed stringent rules for a more growth and steady transition to digital currency.

For example, Canadian government requires that all crypto exchanges in the country register with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FinTRAC).

The Canadian government has also installed 40 Bitcoin ATMs in Vancouver to help make Bitcoin more accessible to people. Bitcoin is also accepted for everyday use as at least two dozen shops and e-commerce stores accept the cryptocurrency as payment across the country.

United States

When it comes to adopting technology, the United States is one of the countries heading the race. Hence, it’s no surprise that this country features some of the biggest cities that have adopted Bitcoin.

San Francisco, a Bitcoin-friendly city, is currently home to some of the biggest digital coins exchange platforms such as Coinbase and Kraken. More than two dozen shops ranging from restaurants and bars accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as payment, and users can also access Bitcoins from 19 ATMs.

New York is another Bitcoin-friendly city in the United States where users can spend their BTCs in more than 3 dozen shops and e-commerce sites. The concrete jungle has 14 Bitcoin ATMs around the city, and is also the home of the Winklevoss Twins’ brainchild, Gemini.

Israel

Tel Aviv is Israel’s leading city when it comes to cryptocurrency adoption. Right now, Tel Aviv has more than a dozen shops and e-commerce sites that accept Bitcoin with several Bitcoin ATMs around the city. Aside from the country’s open support of Bitcoin, Tel Aviv also hosts one of the biggest BTC groups: the Israel Bitcoin Meetup Group with upwards of 3,800 members.

Netherlands

Netherlands’ capital, Amsterdam, is home to some of the biggest mining hardware companies, Bitfury and Bitpay. When it comes to Bitcoin adoption, at least 30 stores accept Bitcoin payments and it’s accessible as there are more than a dozen Bitcoin ATMs around the city. Other cities such as Utrecht, Rotterdam, and The Hague also accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

United Kingdom

The capital of the United Kingdom is one of the leading European countries when it comes to cryptocurrency adoption. Currently, London features at least 50 shops and e-commerce sites that accept BTC, and 130 Bitcoin ATMs located across the city.

Home to Coinfloor, one of the oldest digital exchange sites in the United Kingdom, London is also active in hosting various types of cryptocurrency meetups, forums and seminars. Aside from London, other cities in the United Kingdom that feature Bitcoin ATMs are Aberdeen, Cambridge, Cardiff, Oxford, and Leicester.

Slovenia

Slovenia is one of the prominent European countries that use Bitcoin. Its capital, Ljubljana, has several Bitcoin ATMs and more than 1,000 stores and online shops that accept Bitcoin through a payment app called GoCrypto. Slovenia is also home to Bitstamp, one of the biggest crypto exchange sites, and has accepted at least 13 crypto exchanges that offer Bitcoin. Furthermore, the city of Ljubljana established a 475,00 meter-squared shopping center named BTC City that features shops that use tech solutions such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies.

Let us know, how popular is Bitcoin in your country?

Thanks 🙂

Karl

As far as I know, Coindeal exchange is also based on Malta. Just like bigger names, Binance,OKEx, DQR and ZB, I believe Coindeal will also be in the top list in the near future which indicates how famous Malta really is for cryptocurrency. Also, some universities in Malta offer graduate level degree in the Blockchain technology which is another great move to produced qualified manpower for the crypto sphere. So no doubtfully it is hotspot for BTC.

Malta was a big host for crypto businesses but there were some bad events happened there and after elections in 2019 it was decided that Binance had no legal place in the island nation. I don't know about the rest exchanges but maybe they are too said to have Malta as a base but we need some more evidence and a clear announcement from Malta for this.

All the rest places mentioned in this post are very crypto friendly with the addition of Estonia that was very progressive and is giving licence for EU blockchain businesses.

I live in Colombia and I consider that even the market does not accept much cryptocurrencies compared to other countries, in some commerce establishments and some online stores accept payment with cryptocurrencies, but I honestly feel that in my country it does not have much reception, maybe that's why In Latin America is where the price of BTC is lowest, you could assure that in Colombia it is one of the lowest prices for BTC

It is gratifying to see how bitcoin technology spreads more and more all over the world and that there are already countries where enormous steps are being taken to implement this system, I would like to see an adoption of cryptocurrencies in my country like that of these countries.

I think this list lacks countries such as Estonia, Switzerland - both are home for a number of blockchain projects.

Mexico should be on the list, too, having once hit the record amount in Bitcoin transactions.

Also, Africa is starting to catch up and will soon be the hottest spot for blockchain.

Yes, it is totally true, Bitcoin has managed to overturn the market, dealing with the new revolution in the economy, achieving many changes. It has been very well accepted in many countries, and although the use of cryptocurrencies is already legal here, Bitcoin has not achieved much popularity.

It is obvious to see Malta at the top of the list coz so many crypto related activities are actively going in Malta. China and Singapore are also hotspots for Bitcoin tradings.

Certainly, these countries that you mentioned in your topic are among the most important countries that support Bitcoin and have a large number of users of cryptocurrencies, but there are other countries such as Russia and China as well. These two are important countries in the world of cryptography.

This is very interesting to see all these countries with big economies being hotspots for Bitcoin. It will be more important in the next years and anyone staying behind the progress of Bitcoin will be behind in economy terms also. I read that Binance though is not based in Malta and that there was some discussion about it. I didn't know OKEx was based there either as I've read they are based in Hong Kong and they were raided lately having the Ceo under investigation.

Lately Venezuela Bitcoin trading is thriving and it seems that the government of Maduro is allowing it as they have seen the failures of the fiat currency and how easy it was to be made worth nothing. I hope there will be less taxes involved with crypto trading and regulations when they appear won't be about 20% taxes as this will make it harder to profit from it.

All of the countries in this list are developed. Developing countries still need to gain more awareness and knowledge about crypto to compete with these countries.

I don't know on what order your list is based on but it is lacking some top countries on cryptocurrency usage index. Russia, Venezuela and Zimbabwe to start with. Malta is also great with one of the famous exchange Coindeal from the region.

Overall, it is great list you have made.

    • NordFX Named Best ECN/STP Forex Broker 2024   NordFX received its first award nearly 15 years ago, back in 2010. Since then, it has been honoured with more than 70 professional prizes and titles for achievements and innovations across various sectors of the financial industry. However, only once before, in 2015, were NordFX's merits in organizing ECN trading specifically recognized. Now, the esteemed international online portal FXDailyInfo has once again acknowledged the company as the Best ECN/STP Forex Broker.   FXDailyInfo is one of the leading resources providing daily news and analysis on the financial markets, including broker reviews, educational materials, and other useful information for traders. The portal also annually recognizes the best representatives of the financial industry with its awards. Winners of the FXDailyinfo Awards are determined through open voting by visitors to the website, which makes these awards particularly valuable as they objectively reflect the opinion of the professional community. This time, the high rating was given for the services NordFX offers its clients on Zero accounts on popular platforms such as MetaTrader 4 and 5.   A key feature here is direct access to interbank liquidity. The Electronic Communication Network (ECN) used on MT4 Zero and MT5 Zero accounts directs trader orders directly to liquidity providers, bypassing any additional intermediation. This reduces order processing time and provides the opportunity to trade at the most favourable prices with minimal commissions and spreads. On most popular pairs such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and USD/JPY, typical spreads are 0 pips. In addition to currency pairs, traders can also conduct transactions with cryptocurrencies, stocks, and exchange indexes, as well as oil, gas, and precious metals on these accounts. Notably, the spread for the gold pair XAU/USD is also zero. This pair is particularly favored by traders in NordFX's top three, largely thanks to which they were able to earn an impressive total of nearly $2.5 million USD in the previous year, 2023.
