Grey area is not a proper way to call it. There is no grey thing about crypto. Everything is quite clear. This technology has shocked the financial world and all the people have not yet recovered from it. The main problem is old people who stick with conventional economy. They can't believe something as virtual as bitcoin can have real value. When they think of crypto coins, they imagine it is something that is powered by electricity and when there is no electrical power, there is no currency. This misunderstanding results from lack of study and following old habits. If these people accept crypto like fiat, we will see much bigger growth in the future.

I think that the governments will accept it if enough people are using cryptocurrencies. It can't ban something that makes our live easier and better. They are looking and not all governments are trying to ban but it is only a few that want to control everything. We need decentralized money and not controlled by banks and nations. Before fiat their was an age of copper and gold coins  and before that seeds were used for trading. In human history the medium was changed and society adopted new thing for better mean. Their are many things in crypto which cannot be understood by common person but the crypto cannot be leave behind because of that. One day crypto will be replace but before that crypto need to bit boom point and  become the only payment scale of society.

The crypto have develop good amount of cap and now many of non crypto investors are adopting crypto projects. Their for the scamming projects are caught easily. The crypto is now legal is small number of countries  which is going to increase in 2021 and that year will be crypto year in history. Many of great projects have set launch dates in 2021 .

Cryptocurrency is invented to solve the problems persisted in the traditional financial system, The main goal was to give full financial freedoms to everyone by creating the cryptocurrencies. Most the countries are still getting afraid due price volatility nature of the cryptocurrencies. As OP said it is a "Big-Bang" for the financial system, truly it intended to bring the changes.

Cryptocurrency is a solution to a lot of problems that are associated with fiat currency system. That's why it will stay permanently parallel to fiat system. Fiat will not be completely replaced but continue existing along with crypto.

not understood exactly your question but as you said crypto came to stay and everyday it's improving more and the prices of cryptocurrencies increasing more , so far it's still limited the uses of cryptocurrencies since it's still illegal in many countries but even so compared to before there are many online markets that allow to shop with crypto which is a great step for crypto and in the future the limits will be less as i believe

Today's world technology seems to be described as big bank because technology started very small but gradually is started to expand and in the future with time it will go beyond our thinking that is the power of  technology.
