I can agree both cannot replace each other but personally I think gold is safer than bitcoin because of it's hard ware nature.

Bitcoin as a virtual coin is exposed to hacking and theft more easly and needs special techniques to exchange. 

On the other hand gold is less exposed to stealing and more flexible with exchanging.

Both @Dark Shadow and @khalilmdhave made important points that demonstrate that both diamond and Bitcoin have a good prospect. My personal viewpoint is that only time will tell whether someone is stronger than the other or for certain if both are valued and accepted equally in the world. I can't ignore the fact that Bitcoins have enormous promise. But it will take quite a long time for Bitcoins to catch up to the popularity of gold, since gold has already been embraced globally for decades. Let's wait and see how these work out.

I do not feel that cryptocurrencies will replace gold not because the price of gold is increasing, but because of its high aesthetic value and its attendance of all luxurious events, but I think that electronic currencies will replace the dollar and the rest of the currencies due to its low price and the tendency of everyone to electronic payment
