Well, if considering them in general I would stick to the point that it might be scam, for sure. And the more cryptocurrencies appear the more I am convinced. 
I put it simple. A team has gathered and decided to create their own token for instance. They work, explore and finally develop the new "promising" token.
They decide what will be the volume mined/generated and finally distribute the token and sell it. 
If people adopt it to buy real things and services and there is a good market maker at exchanges then ok, the token is valuable for some time, if not .....ooops. another scam is on the scene.
