Actually, it would be a speculation to say an exact number about the existing exhanges, I think it is easier to name the best 10 exchanges at present than the exact amount existing. This is because every day, just like cryptocurrencies, new exchanges emerge with better benefits for their users and functionalities.

Hi my dear. Yes true that there will be a lot of exchange those are missing but chances are those exchange are non- existence of may be a scam one. I know for BTC when price was 200$, and I remember just dew exchange in that time which work now too. 

CMC has their own rules before listing on their website that is why there are many that not listed.

@xBDT Script I believe there are a lot more exchanges. For example Tokpie exchange isn't mentioned on that list.

I can imagine many exchanges are launched in order to scam the deposits of the users and that is why there are no such issues with the yobit exchange as it is the good one to work on.

The unquestionable numbers of crypto exchange sites existing at the present time are many. Talking about active exchange sites one can search through reliable, legit sites providing Crypto information. Good example CMC or coingecko. But too difficult to state the actual numbers of working exchange sites in the entire world of crypto currency @John Pernia

Just so you know.. not only coinmarketcap have this feature. Alternatives like Coingecko, and Live Coin Watch and many more can give you an answer to your question. but each platform with its UI so it might not be desirable to check any of them randomly. The best for me are coinmarketcap and Coingecko.

Unfortunately  i can't  say the total number of crypto currreny  exchange  now available  in crypto market because every  day new exchange  site getting listed in crypto  market and some are not listed  any more because of bad reputation ..  But you can take a research  on online and see total exchange  number  is 294 spot trading exchange  site..

I guess there have more than 100 Crypto exchanges in the world of cryptocurrencies, although those exchanges are legit, but mostly of the exchanges there are not having high security level and enough capital, so thats why mostly of them when getting hacked, they must close the exchange because they will no have the power to continue running.
