Hardware wallet can show error, it depends, but the error can be from the ledger live or the wallet extension all you are using. But they are the best wallet to use because they are offline unless using it to make transaction, while making transaction their private key still remain offline.

Maybe you are a ledger nano user that operate the wallet with the ledger live, I have known about this before until I changed to electrum for my ledger operate, ledger live can become buggy at times and making things difficult for ledger live users, in this case, try to use electrum.

Hardware wallets are very good, they are the one of the easy access but yet safest means to store cryptocurrencies. Not only bitcoin can be stored on hardware wallets but many other cryptocurrencies including ERC 20 tokens can be stored on hardware wallets.
