ASIC mining difficulties for now, software updates continue to be done to improve mining performance, the use of illegal overclocking software, can damage the mining itself.
buying a new device is the best desire but requires substantial funds for this. what are your choices for mining to keep going?

Overclocking is not illegal, it simply voids the warranty of your graphics cards (overclocking is not possible on ASIC). That's why overclocking can be done with official softwares of your GPU manufacturer. Radeon Whattman for AMD GPU, MSI Afterburner for MSI GPU.... In addition, in terms of mining, there is no point in talking about overclocking if you do not practice undervolting at the same time ... I don't think that you practice mining because I have the impression that you mix a lot of things... This subject is long so I will try to keep it simple by giving you my personal example.:

I have a 8 GPU mining rig since 2 years, I built it for Ethereum and Ethereum Classic mining (but not only). For now, the growing network difficulty is not a problem for me but the low price of ETH is almost a problem.... 

Actually, when you see Ethereum miners crying about the fact that their mining hardwares will become useless (for Ethereum) soon, it's only because their GPU have 4gb memory and the DAG size for ETH mining is actually 3.48Gb and still growing. When the DAG size will reach 4Gb, they'll need to siwtch for another coin to mine (or buy new hardware). When I built my mining rig in December 2017, I choosed 8gb GPU because I was aware of this problem.

About overclocking and undervolting: 

- without touching my GPU, I get only 10Mh/s per GPU on Ethash algorythm (135 watts per GPU)

- if I switch from gaming to computing mode, i get 24Mh/s per GPU

- at this point, the mining rig give 192Mh/s for a total power consumption of +/- 1700 watts (not good)

- with overclocking / undervolting, I get from 232Mh/s to 237Mh/s for a total power consumption of approximatively 1020/1100 watts....

 

Note: I broke one of my GPU with a knife few days ago (so silly)... I have now 7 GPU that give me 204Mh/s so my mining rig consume from 880 to 910 watts. Because I also use CPU mining for Monero, my total power consumption is 943 watts.

 

 

To answer your question about buying new hardware or just updating... I think it's better for you to buy cloud mining contract.

The ASIC Mining device is the best in the market right now but it's about 3000 dollars no one i think can bought that and sas you know the mining is become to hard now and specially after the halving the miner reward will decrease
