Well you make a good point here and to be honest bitcoin is a decentralized currency that is not supported by the government due to it anonymous features which makes it better during transaction and no any tax or third party attached to it compare to gold that is own my a private company with many stake holders.

The volumes are high for some months, but there is a big problem with this. The market is not regulated by anyone except a few exchanges in some countries like USA, Canada, South Korea. Even for these there is little regulators observation and a lot of wash trading that creates fake volumes.
