Low spread is very good and when you are choosing the broker you must make sure that you choose the broker who using low spread, because the high spread is giving high profit for broker but loss for trader.

In forex trading is more good to be using lower spread because it help to start making profit fast, let say the currency price is $0.86588, while your spread is $0.00005, that's means on buying order you'll start make profit once the price rise $0.00005 there is how your profit will start to count and that spread is broker commission because they help you with a leverage. 

Using high spread let say $0.0001 that's means your profit will be too late to start counting.

Lower spread is good when you want to gain profit in not long time  but i prefer it over a higher scale because high scale is more risky
