It is always seen that there are some few members online from a large number of total members which also don't give reputations. Strongly agree with you.Reputation either positive or negative are the criteria to rate the quality of post that either it is useful or not so we shouldn't stop rating the posts as good ratings always encourage the creator to do more better work and negative ratings always discourage the spam or useless content and as you mentioned that the beginners can easily judge the quality posts by looking at its rating.
