What is a scam?

A scam is a dishonest scheme that aims to get money, or something else of value, from its victims.

Many well-known scams are targeted at private individuals or consumers, but there is also a range of scams that target businesses. All sizes and types of businesses can be vulnerable to scams. The losses to individual victims range from a few tens of pounds up to millions.

If a business understands its own vulnerabilities and can recognise a scam for what it is, it can reduce its risk of being caught out.

Thieves use ingenious schemes to defraud millions of people per year. They often combine new technology with old tricks to get people to send them money or give them personal information. Here are some practical tips to help you stay ahead.

- Spot the impostors. Scammers often pose as someone they trust, such as a government official, family member, charity, or company with which you do business. Don't send money or give out your personal information in response to an unexpected request - whether you receive it by text message, phone call or email.
- Do internet searches. Enter the name of a company or a product in your favorite internet search engine by adding words like "comments", "complaint" or "scam". Or do a search by entering a phrase that describes your situation, for example "IRS call." You can even search by entering phone numbers to see if other people reported those numbers in connection with a scam.
- Do not trust what your caller identification device indicates. With today's technology, it is easier for scammers to misrepresent caller ID device information, so the name and number you see on the device are not always real. If someone calls you to ask for money or personal information, hang up the phone. If you think the caller might be telling the truth, call back a number that you know is genuine.
- Don't pay upfront for a promise. Someone might ask you to prepay for things like debt relief services, credit and loan offers, mortgage assistance, or a job. They might even tell you that you won a prize, but that you have to pay taxes or fees first. If you pay them, they will probably keep your money and disappear.

- Consider your payment options. Credit cards offer you an important level of protection, but there are some other payment methods that don't. Making money transfers through services like Western Union or MoneyGram is risky because it is almost impossible to get the money back. This also applies to reloadable cards (like MoneyPak or Reloadit) and gift cards (like iTunes or Google Play). Government offices and honest companies will not require you to use these payment methods.
- Talk to someone. Before giving your money or personal information, talk to someone you trust. Opportunistic scammers want you to make decisions in a hurry. They might even threaten you. Slow down, check the story, do an internet search, consult an expert - or just talk to a friend.
- Hang up on prerecorded robocalls. If you answer the phone and hear a recorded sales pitch, hang up and report the call to the FTC. These calls are illegal, and often the products they promote are fake. Do not press number 1 to speak to an operator, or to remove their phone number from the list. That could lead to more calls.
- Be wary of free trial offers. Some companies use free trials to subscribe you to product purchases and bill you every month until you unsubscribe. Before agreeing to a free trial, research the company and read the cancellation policy. And always check your monthly account statements for charges you don't recognize.

Yes, you have the right to fraudulent sites or people so that they can bring in a lot of victims. They put a nice taste to attract the largest number of subscribers who are looking for a quick profit from cryptocurrencies. Therefore, I advise everyone, before they take any step, they must make sure of the correctness of the information so as not to lose their money and trust a scam and fraud and it is better to study the matter well and research the topic of beginners and learn from the mistakes of others

It is so easy to get scammed. As other say double check everything and don’t believe anything that seems to go to be true. If you are sending some funds to a new site, only send a little to begin.

Thank you for the advice, you're right, the best way to see sites if it's fraudulent or not is to search deep about it, and anyway the sites good reputation is well known and does not need to look deep

Cryptocurrency scam sites can have some similar features: they are created recently, promise faster and higher profits, offer to invest, transfer crypto to them or buy something, offer an enticing affiliate program, sections of the site Contacts, Licenses and Creators contain fictitious information.

There are many offers that virtual scammers make you who say that if you want to earn more than 1,000 Usd a day with nothing more investing 5,000 usd and that is a scam at first sight because when you enter the page you get up in the search engine without any Internet without a padlock and that means that this page is not secure because they can steal your Location through the Internet, Identity Documents and other things that is why my recommendation is that you do not get into the links that each people pass you and tell you to earn 1,000 usd a day ...

scammers always promise attractive things, since otherwise no one would fall into their traps because they would not attract attention, they will always ask for an amount of money before giving you what they promised

If this world of the internet is really difficult as far as you know when an advertisement, a page, etc. is false or real, then you must take the utmost precautions. One of the most used is to copy an original page exactly the same where the normal user would be very difficult to detect, in those cases you have to check the web address, which has the padlock, which is https: and always taking care not to give any account or password they are asking you for.

Scammers are always going to want to attract people with unrealistic offers where they offer you a lot of money and profits and it's just a scam to get your data and take your money, that's why you should look well and verify these sites before investing or giving any personal information. You should study very well where you are going to invest or work.

What they seek is to attract investors with irresistible offers, I remember that a few years ago there was Bitconnect that was a gigantic scam, what they did was offer an irresistible rate of profit

The best known without a doubt is when, they offer quite high rewards and with very little investment, or they even make you invest a large amount of assets and offer you many benefits and then they disappear, you have to investigate those sites, investigate with people who use them .

Of course, their offers will be tempting, as they depend on the person’s psychological state and his natural needs for money, and thus they will present glamorous and tempting offers. In general, when you find such offers that are out of the ordinary and with fantastic profits, I know that they are scams and aim to steal your money and stay away from them.

I have found many misleading offers on the web, and most offer incredibly large sums of money with a very high return on investment, which does not seem to be real, and in fact it is not.

Most cryptocurrency scams are presented by false investment opportunities. Generally this person wants you to send them money using Bitcoin or some other cryptocurrency. Once this payment is made, your money disappears. Other forms of scam would be when they promise to double your investment or that you will get free cryptocurrencies. You have to be alert.

Scammers work on the ability to be reliable, sometimes they are not easy to recognize, so it is important to investigate and doubt before entering any capital. And always bear in mind that if you offer a great income in a little in a very short time, it is very likely a scam.

Regardless of the beauty of the wrapper, it is always better to double-check the information several times from different sources. this is usually the case.
