myetherwallet is secure wallet  and we use it to store ETH for long time. Hacking of wallet is in your under control. In order to prevent your wallet from hacker and scammer don't share your private keys with anyone because hackers hack your wallet by your private keys (password) of wallet.

MEW for me is simple but not that simple like Metamask both these wallet are fine and both of them have their pros and cons but personally i prefer MEW but i also use Metamask for its more easier interface.

Hum i actually have no clue as i have not yet been using it or either creating my own wallet using their source code.

 

You should mainly look for answers somewhere else where developers have already used and build their own Myetherwallet wallets.

Open source wallet is the best but hat does not mean close source is bad, but people prefer open source wallet because the souce code of the wallet is available to anyone unlike close source, but if the company offering the close source is good, then there is nothing bad to go for it. Although, I prefer open source.
