OP asked for the best currency, not the best crypto asset. Ethereum isn't a currency.

I think Litecoin is second to Bitcoin of the currencies currently available. It's been the since almost the beginning and are slowly gaining more adoption towards it's goal. You have the same functionality as Bitcoin but in a larger scale due to faster transfer times.

I could have argued Nano, as it's fast and cheap to use. But Nano is lacking adoption.

The best crypto currency behind bitcoin  is in my opinion not developed yet. The best crypto must be fast, scalable, secure and privat. But it must also stand the threath against quantum computing. I think this will be the xx-coin.

I would give the 2nd place to ETH, and the 3rd to TRX for the moment. But probably in a few years we could see that one of those two will overtake BTC.

I would not compare ETH and TRX with XRP or LTC because they are too different.  Ripple and LTC are just another money, btw the same as BTC is. Meanwhile  ETH and TRX are platforms those support smartcontracts, dapps, alllow to issue tokens, etc. ,   let's say they are the next generation of cryptocurrencies, the future demand.
