Yeah it was the same with me I wasn't able to figure out what should be considered. Possibly most coins are alternatives created after the bitcoin. Some people in the beginning assume that there are only Bitcoins and later they experience a lot of things and learn more about the trading world . This will give them knowledge about not only coins but thier security , value etc.

Cryptocurrencies are all similar to the same characteristics of transaction speed and security, but all cryptocurrencies cannot be identical, especially Bitcoin because Bitcoin is the best and most popular currency, and all other cryptocurrencies can be considered on one side and Bitcoin alone on the other.  You cannot equate Bitcoin with other cryptocurrencies.

Honestly, i focused only on bitcoin when i joined crypto world. I even learned Peer to Peer trading method so that i can trade bitcoins in localbitcoins and paxful exchanges. But after a few months i learned about Arbitrage trading and from there i started to deal with altcoins as well.

Most people when they hear about crypto currencies all that comes to their ming is bitcoin and this is because bitcoin is the most popular crypto currency. Bitcoin is definitely the father of all crypto currencies so they are not wrong if they say so.
