Masternode is a unique strategy of earning money, staking and masternodes are being operated together, they are both mechanisms for confirming, distributing coins and production of new blocks. They both only differs on how they do their work.  Staking only depends on the coin in order to produce profits for masternodes. They both work together for the same goal purpose. As far as I know stalking is to buy a huge amount of a coin when the price is still low and keep it with you as a long term investment.
