I think bitcoin can be used for donations worldwide if the bitcoin is accepted globally. It will be more acceptable to institutions and will be ease to donators for donation from remote places without problem of any nations currency rate.

As long it is not banned or forbidden as a term of payment then there's no issue with bitcoin becomes a donation method. Moreover it is pseudonymous meaning that we don't know who's behind the address so it fits perfectly with charity concept or something, when people want to do a good thing but they wont reveal their identity.
