Will XRP Overtake Ethereum in 2020?

Reporting from Our Bitcoin News, on the last day of 2019 Ethereum (ETH) survived an attack that almost closed its entire network. Australian blockchain developer Liam Aharon said that the attack took advantage of software defects in the widely used Ethereum client.

Aharon said that the attack failed because Geth's client was immune to this special attack. If ETH does not have this client, the attack will have serious problems for crypto.

That attack seemed to be something Ethereum could easily win. However, this year XRP can bring even more trouble to Ethereum. XRP has succeeded in surpassing ETH in overall transaction value.

Normality floated on the crypto market on the first day of this year. ETH recorded more than $ 80.4 million in transaction value. XRP only got $ 20.34 million. However, the scenario changes when XRP reaches $ 214.34 million in transaction value.

In addition to beating his own record, XRP successfully beat the leading altcoin in the market. On the same day Ethereum only made $ 137.26 million.

The stakes for Ethereum to shine in 2020 are huge. The popularity of DeFi (decentralized finance) can be a major cause of ETH excellence. That's because the growth of the DeFi application has focused on the altcoin blockchain.

Dapp.com revealed that more than 75% of DeFi applications are active on Ethereum. While EOS came in second with only 11% of applications. Throughout 2019 the DeFi application was able to outperform gaming and gambling applications in the number of users at various points this year.

As reported by Bitcoin Guide, Ian Balina, a smooth blockchain specialist and ICO and CEO of Token Metrics, believes Ethereum can outperform Bitcoin in market value in the 2020s.

I don't think that will happen because the popularity of XRP has not been able to match even the amount of ethereum. ethereum will remain the second largest coin after bitcoin because ethereum can prove the quality of their coins so that its growth cannot be matched by XRP..

I think that cant happen. In my opinion XRP cannot overtake ETH. ETH has really gain ground alot. A lot of work need to be done for  XRP to meet up.

Ripple beating Eth in terms of market cap?  Maybe.  But so what if it did?  Market cap doesn't mean anything except the total value of all the coins in circulation.  It doesn't have any value in telling you how popular a coin is or if it's worth buying, so my answer would be 'who cares?'.  And ripple is a centralized cryptocurrency unlike Eth, so in my book Eth wins out every time.

Ripple XRP and Ethereum both are a very good coin after  Bitcoin they are the second, but I think impossible this will not be happen, the reason Ethereum is a very coin popular there are many investor who invest on it.

Well great sharing news, but I don't think XRP will be that good to overtake ethereum because as I saw ethereum performance I see that its quite good and performing well but based on the news and its statistics it shows a shockingly result even ethereum can overtake bitcoin if that's the case then I should use also ethereum in fact I have some stored different coins and one of them is ethereum and if this happens then that will be good opportunity.

Ripple have a few times overtakes Ethereum by marketcap, i think its very easy for ripple to overtake ethereum again

Depending on the manipulations made by the whales, it could easily identified some of constraints such as xrp has a very low value though its supplies is rhe opposite. Ethereum still stand a chance against this altcoin.

This possibility could not be due to the fact that Ethereum is very strong and there are a lot of merchants for Ethereum even though XRP coins are widely used because the transaction costs are very cheap and it cannot overtake Ethereum.

It would be very interesting to watch, but it will not happen that Ripple will overtake Ethereum. Ethereum has already moved a lot in terms of capitalization.

I think it is not possible for this year but maybe on the future year. Ethereum is a strong and profitable coin in the list of top coins on the market and I read some articles about the Ethereum 2.0 if I'm not mistaken. Yet, Ripple is a good coins to invest in.

I do not think XRP coins will replace ethereum coins in 2020 because the market value of ethereum coins is very high and there is a lot of demand in the world market compared to XRP coins.

well for me i think its a long shot to see litecoin in top 3 because that coin has no big capital like the rest, and i think in 2020 we might see it bellow 30$ again. and even ripple wont have enough money to take on etheruem.

Xrp is a good coin conare to other small coins but it cannot overtake to ethereum .as ethereum is a second most trading cryptocurrency after the bitcoin .so there is no chances of overtaking it

As long as eth is in market , ripple will not overtake it, but if eth is taken out like what you mention, well then the only deserving coin is xrp that can overtake eth.

Knowing ethereum's reputation now and comparing it to ripple, they have a far different exchange rates and values. Even so if only solely based on market price then it might take a miracle if ripple price will overcome ethereum's for now.

I think Ethe will remain in second place after Bitcoin. Coin Xrp has not been able to surpass it because Ethe is currently in the process of upgrading to 2.0, I think it will also maintain its position.

I think Ethereum is a very strong project. Ripple is unlikely to be able to overtake Ethereum. Many people do not like ripple due to the fact that this coin works with banks.

well if you have been in the market long enough you would know it has already happened before as we saw ripple overtake etheruem place in second and staying there for 3 days only tho, could possibly happen again in bull market.
