Account recovery/ stake any address

I was responding in another thread about this and I was personally thinking as well. If we get hacked or somehow lose access of our account then only way for us to prove the ownership is to use a wallet address, sign it with a message.

It's similar to "stake your Bitcoin address" in bitcoinTalk but since this forum is not only about Bitcoin but about all crypto, I will suggest everyone to sign any address (btc, eth anything) and stake it here.

Good idea for improving security, I will also stake my address when I generate it.

On BitcoinTalk similar thread helped a lot of users to prove their ownership of accounts, when they got hacked.

I advise everyone with account here to sign their address also.

Agreed with you but you should be aware of that email can also be compromised. However, considering that the forum is young yet, chance is no one will hack the forum account, although we have to account the upcoming reward of 1 BTC and some others, hacker may attack the highest posters. It would certainly be better to stake an address to prove the ownership later.

Correct. Since there will be no KYC and stuffs so it will be very hard to find the legit owner if there are no such thing in case of a compromised account.

Because email can be hacked too. Many accounts on other crypto forum are hacked because email expired and hacker simple created new email with the same characters, changed password on account and that is it. They can't really do that with bitcoin address, staking one is good way to prove ownership.

Exactly, I think for new crypto space users (in forums) it's hard to understand but us who has experience with other forums we know the deal.

Of course, I never got hacked but I have seen what torture other users who have been hacked experienced. Your address is like fingerprint.

I think this is not necessary to do now, 
though we have a double security on this.

1 we have the email address which is used on signing up an account, (mine is secured with double auth)

We also have our password on this forum, what we need to do is to be careful and make sure that our account information is safe.

Not if the forum software has 2FA feature if it has then enabling it will help a lot. This was members can secure their accounts however if the database hacks then the only way to prove your account is the signed address.

google 2fa would be enough for me, but i think this is a good initiative, because we are in the crypto world, why not use it as a proof. Especially if we are getting wallets in here.

All the hacked exchanges had 2FA, and people used to enable it. Still people claim their account got hacked. 2FA certainly a good option but is not secured as we think it. It's always better if we use blockchain technology.

Here can also be two-factor authentification like Google Authentication like some other forums also do.  This also can secure our account some.  Here in addition to Google Authentication include email and mobile (for withdrawals).

 

But I don't think hacker will be able to link our account to his yobit account and able to withdraw even if he gets access to our cryptotalk account, as our cryptotalk account is linked to our own yobit account.

You can not be so certain. It's not about the money we are talking about, it the account ownership to prove - that is what we are talking about.

If I have a bitcoin singed message then I can always sign a message and prove that this is my account despite having a hack or not.

Well consider the stake your address with a sign message so that you can restore your account in the future in case you lose it.

I will still say some of the members are failing to see big picture of this forum. Still ranking up is very easy since we have just started. Some members still have doubts that if we really can stay long term?

I have taken a leap of faith and my goal is to be the first VIP in here. Obviously be then we will see some good projects who will try to get exposure for their business and high ranked members will get priority.

Imagine someone made it to post 2k posts and one day they discovered they can not login for some reason. They have no other way to prove that they are were the real owner.
