The short version: fork() causes a new (nearly) identical process to be created by making a request to the operating system. Both the parent and child process resume execution at the point where fork() was called. The long version: The fork() function triggers a kernel interrupt to request that the current process be cloned. When the kernel receives the interrupt signal it copies over the memory of the calling program, allocates a new process id, assigns it to the child process and resumes execution of the processes. On a multi-core system with a free core both the parent and child may run in parallel, otherwise the operating system will perform normal context switching between the parent/child and the other runnable processes on the system. * Many systems don't actually copy over the full memory space. That would be expensive. Instead they perform what is known as "copy-on write." As long as neither process writes to a particular page in memory they will continue to share it. When either process writes to a page the OS copies it and remaps the virtual memory space of the process writing the page to point to the new page.

Many people are investing in crypto currencies my biggest reservation is the volatility and the security. The disappointments are many. To me this is like asking do I buy apple, microsoft, oracle, nextel, amd, orange, banana, apricot, ars, or 5000 other tech stocks in 1988. Everyone wants to be in the boat but too many will need a lifeboat by the time crypto shakes out.
